Cathey, whose career spanned more than 30 years with more than 80 roles on both film and television, was perhaps best known for his turns in the TV dramas Oz, The Wire and House of Cards, the latter of which earned him a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in 2015. Though details of Cathey’s cancer battle have yet to be fully revealed, the illness clearly didn’t stop the acclaimed actor from working, with a role in the Cinemax series Outcast in 2017, and most recently, a turn in the indie drama Tyrel last month.
