The First Gay Head Writer On “SNL” Is Leaving — But For A Very Good Reason

by 10h ago Saturday Night Live’s first out gay head writer, Chris Kelly, is leaving the long-running sketch show, along with writing partner Sarah Schneider. The duo—who gave us sketches as “Dyke & Fats” and “The Beygency”—are the creators, writers, and executive producers of the new Comedy Central series The Other Two, about 20something siblings living in the shadow of their newly famous younger brother. Lorne Michaels must be okay with it, though: He’s executive producing and the show is under his Broadway Video umbrella. “We are so excited to make this show with Comedy Central, our incredible cast, and our joint biological father Lorne Michaels, who will be making a cameo in at least one episode, and is finding that out right now,” Kelly and Schneider said in a statement. Before joining SNL in 2011, Kelly wrote for Broad City, was a staff writer on Funny or Die, and won a Peabody for his work with the Onion News Network. Comedy Central Kelly will direct the premiere and other episodes of The Other Two, which sees Drew Tarver as Craig, an aspiring actor wondering why he can’t get better auditions than “Man At Party Who
