X-Men: Days of Future Past

Young Professor Charles Xavier actor James McAvoy shared a potentially disappointing update on the movie’s time travel conceit, indicating he might not actually share any scenes with Patrick Stewart’s older version of the character:

“It’ll be cool, but I don’t think we get any scenes together, sadly. I don’t think there’s any future self talking to past self.”

For his part, X-Men: First Class and Warm Bodies star Nicholas Hoult says he’s been trying to get information about the new film from his Jack the Giant Slayer director Bryan Singer, with limited success:

Yes, I’ve been trying to get a fair bit of information out of him, he’s kind of making me hang on until the script a little bit, but he’s given a few rough ideas of what’s going to be going on. The brilliant thing about it is seeing him so excited about it because that’s always a good sign when you get a director that excited about the story and the ideas and what’s going to be happening then you know that it sign to be a real thrill to work on.

Do you know when you’re shooting yet? Do you have your schedule?
I don’t have the complete dates yet, I know it’s going to be starting fairly soon here. Bryan’s already scouting locations and really getting into pre-production so still waiting to hear exactly, but in the not too distant future.

Iron Man 3

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explains why the inclusion of Extremis nanotechnology allows writer-director Shane Black’s film to sidestep the previous Iron Man movies’ reliance on armored villains:

“We’re calling it a biological reality and there’s a science behind it that allows people to glow and rip apart Iron Man suits. Frankly, Shane was not interested, and we were not interested, in having another armoured character and another armored character fight. We’ve done that twice before.”

And here’s a passage from the new Empire Magazine issue that drops some details on a particular scene:

The scene ends with Stark, bloodied and dazed, flying away not entirely in control of his malfunctioning prototype. He lands hundreds of miles away in a snowy field, where, out of power, he can’t get in touch with Pepper. Or Rhodey. Or The Avengers, neatly sidestepping that question.

Breaking into a deserted-looking garage, the tone then zigzags again as Tony is startled by a ten year-old kid, Harley (Ty Simpkins) sparking what [Drew] Pearce calls the film’s “sci-fi Capra” phase. “We loved the idea of doing something classically Spielbergian – a kid finds a superhero in a shed. Their relationship is not something you would traditionally see in Spielberg, though; it’s bawdier, more fractious.” Extremis is a scientific program invented by Hansen and abused by the Mandarin and his right-hand man, Guy Pearce’s slimy Aldrich Killian. It rewrites the operating system of the body, upgrading strength, speed and durability to the very zenith of human possibility.

The Wolverine

Here’s director James Mangold’s latest on-set production tweet.

Man of Steel

Jor-El actor Russell Crowe offers this take on the film:

“Man of Steel, yeah. It’s a reboot of the franchise with Zack Snyder who did the 300 film and a young English fellow name Henry Cavill. Superman or Kal-El as I would call him because he’s my son – times have changed, I’m Superman’s dad….To be able to find out that at his core and center that he has that sort of humility is a wonderful moment.”

Fantastic Four

Seth Grahame-Smith, who probably prefers to be referred to as the author of the bestselling novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter rather than the screenwriter of the critical and commercial bomb Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is reportedly polishing the screenplay for Chronicle director Josh Trank’s reboot. First-time screenwriter Jeremy Slater wrote the original draft of the script. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the new reboot is taking a grounded superhero and sci-fi approach to the heroes and will tap deep into the comics mythology, which featured not just the better-known villains such as Doctor Doom and Galactus but also alien races the Kree and the Skrull, and the anti-matter universe known as the Negative Zone.” That description doesn’t necessarily mean that any of those specific elements will appear, but it sounds like at least some of these headier concepts will be mixed in among the “grounded approach”, inasmuch as any depiction of a superhero team like the Fantastic Four can really feature a grounded approach. Prometheus 2

Star Noomi Rapace discusses the status of Ridley Scott’s planned Prometheus sequel:

They’re working on the script. I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It’s just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will… I love working with Ridley. It was pure joy. It was really hard work sometimes. My body was a complete mess – I had bruises and cuts and emotionally I was a bit slammed. But being in his world and his universe was such an amazing experience.

“And it’s interesting because people, most people I’ve talked to who see the movie, see things that are quite different. Some people who see the movie many times and discover new things. There are all these religious aspects and there are very interesting conversations. And for me, if we do a second one, there are a lot of things to explore in there and to continue. I would love to do it.”

Mad Max: Fury Road

Nicholas Hoult details his experiences shooting George Miller’s new, Tom Hardy-starring Mad Max movie:

I’ve been asked, but there’s not too much I can say about it to be honest with you. George is a fantastic director very sweet, kind and caring and creates a brilliant environment to work in whereby you have these spectacular locations and the vehicles in that movie, the gut-churning noises they make. It was one of the most exciting sets I’ve ever been on in my life by far. To be a part of that visually and see the stunts they were doing. The story is full on, it’s intense and I can’t wait to see the film.

Obviously I’m not going to ask you about the story because I don’t want you to get in trouble, but what was it like working with Tom [Hardy] and Charlize [Theron] and everyone else in this movie? Because you guys were filming on location, this wasn’t some soundstage movie.
No we were out there in the elements doing it for real for maybe seven months, which is great because it makes it a lot easier when you’re actually experiencing that that rather than being in a studio somewhere kind of faking everything. Tom’s a great leading man, he’s very intense and fascinating to watch because you’re never quite sure where he’s going to go with a scene and what he’s going to do next and really embodies the character and is really smart with his acting. Charlize as well, she’s very strong and committed and I learn a lot from hanging around with actors like that. The rest of the cast Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough; they’re all a real treat to work with. I made really good friends. It’s a real life changing experience spending that much time with a group of people and being in that location.

Godzilla

Offering further evidence that this is going to be the most high-brow giant fighting monster movie ever made, Monsters director Gareth Edwards reportedly hopes to add acclaimed French actress Juliette Binoche to his English-language Godzilla reboot, which already includes Martha Marcy May Marlene star Elizabeth Olsen and could also add Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston as well as Anna Karenina (and, yes, Kick-Ass) star Aaron Taylor-Johnson to the mix. There’s no word on which role Binoche is in negotiations to play, but I think I speak for everyone when I say I’m hoping for a refined, elegantly French take on Mothra. [Variety]

The fourth episode of season six is reportedly called “I’m Your Man”, and the episode will see the debut of two potentially recurring roles: a LAVTF (which might, as the source suggests, stand for Louisiana Vampire Task Force) Team Commander “who prepares to attack a house with his crew” and a security chief who “becomes concerned for his employer when a vampire pays a visit.” [SpoilerTV]

Person of Interest

Here’s the description for the seventeenth episode, “Proteus”, which is set to air March 7:

WHEN THE MACHINE GIVES OUT SIX NUMBERS AT ONCE, REESE AND FINCH GO ON THE HUNT FOR A NAMELESS AND FACELESS MURDERER – After the machine gives Reese and Finch six numbers at once, their search for clues leads them to a coastal town where they are forced to ride out a storm with a group of locals in a police station. However, as the weather rages outside, a sinister situation arises inside when they realize there is an unidentified killer hiding among them.

Episode twenty will reportedly be called “In Extremis”, and the episode’s person of interest will be a Dr. Nelson, described as “a renowned and highly skilled cardiothoracic surgeon.” [SpoilerTV]

Touch

Here’s the official description for episode seven, “Ghosts”, which airs March 15:

MARTIN STOPS AT NOTHING AS GUILLERMO CLOSES IN ON JAKE ON AN ALL-NEW “TOUCH” FRIDAY, MARCH 15, ON FOX — During a rare rainy Los Angeles evening, Martin and Jake head to Breakwire to enlist the help of his old friend Dutch (guest star Keith David), a grizzled ex-Navy Seal. When the lights go out in the building, the storm is suspected, but all hell breaks loose when Guillermo enters the premises. As the intensity ratchets up and people turn up dead, Jake’s ability to communicate with Amelia proves to be critical in defending his life.
